    Subject: (Do NOT write anything here)
    Textconfig Maling list name Management password

  • 2. If the mailing list name and password are both correct, a file for the settings will be returned.
    --
    >>>> config "mailing list name" "management password"
    # The configuration file for a majordomo mailing list.
    # Comments start with the first # on a line, and continue to the end
    # of the line. There is no way to escape the # character. The file
    (SNIP)
    # for everyone. List allows only list members access, or if
    # restrict_post is defined, only the addresses in those files are
    # allowed access.
    who_access          =   closed

    END OF COMMANDS

  • 3. Change the content of the file for environment settings.
  • 4. Update the file for environment settings after change.
    If you write only changed items, it could cause improper operation. From the setting file you obtained, you need to send all lines between">>>> config "Mailing list name" Management password"and">>>> end"」(with the example below, all line with "#" mark at the top). However, the line begins with "#[Last update ..." is a comment line, that it is not necessary to send.
    Address(To:) majordomo@sfc.keio.ac.jp
    Subject: (Do NOT write anything here)
    Text newconfig "Mailing list name" "Management password"
    # The configuration file for a majordomo mailing list.
    # Comments start with the first # on a line, and continue to the end
    # of the line. There is no way to escape the # character. The file
    # uses either a key = value for simple (i.e. a single) values, or uses
    # a here document
    # key << END
    # value 1
    :
    (SNIP)
    :
       #for everyone. List allows only list members access, or if
       # restrict_post is defined, only the addresses in those files are
       # allowed access.
    who_access = closed
    EOF
    end
    If the settings is correct, you will receive the email like below;
    >>>> newconfig "Maling list name" "Management password"
    New config for list "Mailing list name" accepted.
    >>>> end
    END OF COMMANDS

How to restrict the size of attachment file

  • Mailing list that is applied after November 25 2015 is set 25,000,000byte (25MB).
  • The default is 40,000byte (40KB). If you applied to mailing list before November 25 2015, please change a size of attachment file.

    Example: Change to 80,000byte (80KB)

    maxlength = 80000
    If you attache the file on email, its size will be increased by around 33% (depending of the specification). If you send message with large size to mailing list, it could place burden on the server. Please consider distributing such messages on web page or other means.

Prohibit the posting other than members of the mailing list

  • If you limit the people who could submit to the mailing list to the member, it will be affective to avoid spam.

    Example:

    restrict_post = "Mailing list name"

How to specify the return-address

  • Set the "Reply-To:"

    Example:

    reply_to = t00001ab@sfc.keio.ac.jp

    If you set the name of the mailing list for the "Reply-To header", return address will be to the mailing list.
