1-3. Migrate emails that could not be automatically migrated

Introduction

Emails that exceed the 25MB per email limit and emails with attachments where the extension is an executable (such as .exe, .bin, or .sh) cannot be automatically migrated to the new system.
Carry out the following steps for any emails in those that could not be migrated and are needed.
If this is not necessary, move to "1-4. Migrating Emails in the Drafts Folder".

After checking any emails that did not get automatically migrated, carry out the steps for reason for transmission failure.

  1. 1-3-1. Check emails that could not be automatically migrated

1-3-1. Check emails that could not be automatically migrated

  1. Log into keio.jp
  2. Select "Email migration problem status" from the Application menu.

    If you cannot see this menu, you will not need to carry out this procedure.
    Move to "1-4. Migrating Emails in the Drafts Folder".

  3. Check any emails in here than need to be migrated.

    If there are no emails that need migrating, move to "1-4. Migrating Emails in the Drafts Folder".


    If there are emails that need migrating and you wish to migrate them, follow the steps below.
    The steps will differ depending on whether the "Reason for transmission failure" is "Excess capacity" or "A problem has occurred."

1-3-2. Reason for transmission failure: Migration of "Excess capacity" emails

The Thunderbird email software is required for migrating email data.
Thunderbird can be used in both Windows and Mac.

  1. Install Thunderbird and connect the current system and the new system by IMAP.
    If you have already set this, move to the next step.
    If you have not set it, refer to 1-Reference: Procedure for connecting old and new systems using Thunderbird.

  2. Email attachments in the current system that could not be migrated should be given names and saved on your own computer.
  3. After saving, delete the attachments only.

    Caution: Deleted attachments cannot be restored.

  4. The "Confirm deletion" message will be displayed, so click "OK."
  5. Shift the emails where you deleted the attachments from the current system to the new system.
    Copy (press C while holding down the Control key) the email you wish to move and paste (press V while holding down the Control key) it into the folder you wish to move it to.
  6. Files downloaded in Step 2 can either be saved on your own machine or saved in Drive.
    Refer to the procedure in 12. Settings for the Web file migration method (Gmail) for how to save in Drive.

1-3-3. Reason for transmission failure: Migration of "A problem has occurred" emails

The reason for "A problem has occurred" emails is because an email includes one of the following attachments.Migrate as needed emails which cannot be migrated automatically.

  1. Files with the following extensions:
    .ade、.adp、.bat、.chm、.cmd、.com、.cpl、.exe、.hta、.ins、.isp、.jse、.lib、.lnk、.mde、
    .msc、.msp、.mst、.pif、.scr、.sct、.shb、.sys、.vb、.vbe、.vbs、.vxd、.wsc、.wsf、.wsh
  2. Compressed files which include the file formats above.
  3. Zipped files which include password-protected ZIP files.
    Reference: Gmail: Some file formats are blocked.

The reason for "Others" emails is because they could not be automatically migrated for some reason other than above.
Migrate as needed emails which cannot be migrated automatically.

The Thunderbird or Becky! email software is required for migrating email data.
Thunderbird can be used in both Windows and Mac, while Becky! is only available for Windows.

Steps: When using Thunderbird

  1. Install Thunderbird and connect the current system and the new system by IMAP.
    If you have already set this, move to the next step.
    If you have not set it, refer to 1-Reference: Procedure for connecting old and new systems using Thunderbird.
  2. Migrate emails that were not automatically migrated from the current system to the new system.
    Specify "Right click" → "Copy message" → "E.g. keio-taro@keio.jp" → "[Gmail]" → "Sent."
    The following is an example of email migration from the current system's In-box to the new system's (Gmail) In-box.

If this has been completed, move to "1-4. Migrating emails in the Drafts folder" .

Steps: When using Becky! Ver.2

  1. Install Becky!Ver.2 and connect the current system and the new system by IMAP.
    If you have already set this, move to the next step.
    If you have not set it, refer to 1-Reference: Procedure for connecting old and new systems using Becky! Ver.2.
  2. Migrate emails that were not automatically migrated from the current system to the new system.
    Select the emails to move with Ctrl+C and paste them in the folder for moving with Ctrl-V

If this has been completed, move to "1-4. Migrating emails in the Drafts folder".
