Usage of data destruction devices

When disposing of PC or handing over to someone, there is a risk of information leakage from built in disk.
Only data deletion or format are imperfect data elimination, data can be restored by dedicated software in many cases.
Shonan Fujisawa Information Technology Center have prepared devices which disable to reuse disk itself for faculty and staff members.

Usage instruction and notes

  1. Target of use are faculty and staff members who belong to Keio.
  2. Please visit Shonan Fujisawa Information Technology Center with devices that data needs to be destructed.
  3. Please note that Shonan Fujisawa Information Technology Center cannot operate data destruction and dispose of PC or hard disk.
  4. Magnetically and physically destroyed hard disk and media are unavailable to reuse.
    Shonan Fujisawa Information Technology Center will not take any responsibility, even if the data is erased due to unintended deletion or destruction.
  5. Data on tablet and smart phone cannot be deleted, please contact selling agencies and makers.

Equipment Information

Magnetic destruction device

Magnetic recording data such as hard disk (HDD) is magnetically erased by generating strong magnetism.
Target media : Laptop computers of B4 size or smaller / HDDs of 5-inch size or smaller / Magnetic tapes (VHS tapes, etc.)
Data erasing time : Approx. 0.1 seconds (charging time: approx. 25 seconds)
Erasure tray area : width 315mm x depth 364mm x height 90mm
Multiple media can be placed in the tray and erased data at once. (B4 size laptops can be stored without removing the HDD)

Physical destruction device

Hard disk (HDD) is destroyed by using four built- in destruction pins, solid state drive (SSD) is bumpily deformed as a whole, and then media is physically destroyed.
Target media :3.5- or 2.5-inch HDD/SSD, M.2 SSD, USB memory, SD card
Please remove SSD from a computer and take off the screws on the front and back of the SSD.
Destruction time : about 20-30 seconds
